Powerlifters win 5 medals in East Zone meet

A 15-member Odisha squad bagged three gold and two bronze medals in the East Zone Powerlifting Championship, which was held at Dhanbad in Jharkhand from March 15 to 18. Krishna Kumari Mallick, Sangita Singh and Pradip Kumar Patra won the three gold medals, while Sanjay Nayak and Santosh Kumar Barik settled with a bronze medals each, claimed Odisha Powerlifting Association secretary Chitta Ranjan Swain informed.

Krishna pocketed the title in women`s 57kg weight category, lifting 125kg in squat, 42.5kg in bench press and 120kg in deadlift for a total of 287.5kg. Rourkela lifter Sangita emerged champion in women`s 84kg weight class with a total lift of 397.5 kg, which included 165kg in squat, 82.5kg in benchpress and 150kg in deadlift.

Bhubaneswar lifter Patra triumphed in men’s 66kg category with a total lift of 637.5 kg (squat 232.5, benchpress 132.5, deadlift 272.5). Nayak and Barik finished third in men`s 105kg and 120kg categories with total lifts of 697.5kg (250+160+282.5) and 620kg (270+120+230) respectively.
